What is Gratuity?

Gratuity is a lump sum amount paid by an employer to an employee as a token of appreciation for their long-term service, especially upon resignation, retirement, or termination.

Gratuity Formula (as per Indian Act)

Gratuity = (15 × Last Drawn Salary × Years of Service) / 26

  • 15 days of salary per completed year.
  • 26 = Number of working days in a month.
  • Last Drawn Salary = Basic Salary + Dearness Allowance

Eligibility

  • Minimum 5 years of continuous service.
  • Applicable on resignation, retirement, or death.
