❀️ Heart Rate Calculator

This calculator determines your maximum heart rate (MHR) and calculates your target heart rate (THR) zones using three methods: Basic by Age, Karvonen by Age & RHR, and Karvonen by Measured MHR & RHR.

What is Heart Rate?

Your heart rate is the number of times your heart beats per minute (bpm). It varies based on your activity level, fitness, age, and stress. Monitoring your heart rate helps improve workouts and maintain a healthy cardiovascular system.

Why Calculate Target Heart Rate?

Knowing your target heart rate (THR) helps you exercise effectively. It ensures you stay within a safe and efficient heart rate range β€” whether you're burning fat, improving endurance, or boosting cardiovascular fitness.

Key Terms Explained

  • Maximum Heart Rate (MHR): The highest your heart rate can go during intense activity. Typically estimated using the formula: 220 - age.
  • Resting Heart Rate (RHR): Your heart rate while at complete rest, usually measured first thing in the morning.
  • Target Heart Rate (THR): The ideal range your heart rate should stay within during exercise to gain optimal benefits.

Calculation Methods

  • Basic Method: Based on age. THR = 50%–85% of your MHR.
  • Karvonen Formula (Age + RHR): Adds Resting Heart Rate to personalize your THR zones.
  • Karvonen Formula (Measured MHR + RHR): Uses your tested maximum heart rate for even more accurate THR.

What’s a Good Heart Rate?

A typical resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 bpm. During exercise, your target zone should be between 50% and 85% of your maximum heart rate, depending on intensity.

Tips for Measuring Heart Rate

  • Check your pulse on your wrist or neck using two fingers (not your thumb).
  • Count the beats for 15 seconds and multiply by 4 to get bpm.
  • Use fitness trackers or smartwatches for real-time heart rate data.

Who Should Use This Calculator?

This tool is ideal for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, heart patients (consult your doctor first), or anyone looking to make workouts more effective and safer.

The calculator is for general wellness and fitness purposes. If you have a heart condition or are on medication, speak with your healthcare provider before starting a new fitness routine.
